Product details

Background & context

The StuG was conceived as accompanying artillery for the infantry: a short howitzer on the chassis of the Panzer III. From 1942 it received the long 7.5 cm StuK 40 and so became the cheapest and most effective tank destroyer of the Wehrmacht: without a turret it was cheaper to build and lower to hide. Over 10,000 came off the line, more than any German tank. Finland used its StuGs successfully against the Red Army in 1944, and Romania and Bulgaria ran them until the end of the war.

On the tabletop

With no turret and a low silhouette, the Sturmgeschütz III was built on the Panzer III chassis. In 1:76 the 79 parts make a model 71 mm long with one set of markings. In a diorama you can show it lying in wait behind a hedge or in a hollow, where its low build stands out. On the gaming table it supports German infantry in 1:76 and doubles as a tank hunter against enemy vehicles.
