    Product details

    Background & context

Sainte-Mère-Église lay on the N13 trunk road, the supply artery of the German defence of the Cotentin, which is why the 82nd US Airborne Division jumped right here during the night leading into 6 June 1944. By the morning of D-Day the town was in Allied hands, and it has been regarded ever since as the first liberated commune in France. What has stuck above all is the image of the paratrooper John Steele on the church tower, which the film “The Longest Day” later made world famous.

    On the tabletop

This edition with paints, brush and cement contains everything needed to build and paint a street scene from Sainte-Mère-Église in 1:72. The box holds a GMC CCKW 353, a 1/4 ton truck with trailer, 48 figures of US paratroopers and German Panzergrenadiers, and four acrylic paints. Because the town sat on the N13 road, the US 82nd Airborne Division landed here in the night before 6 June 1944, and by morning it was liberated. The decal sheet gives you a choice of two markings for the vehicles.
