Product details

Background & context

The D version was the most-built Mustang and is easy to recognise: instead of the framed hood it received a bubble canopy that finally gave the pilot all-round vision, plus a dorsal fin to make up for the lost stability. Six machine guns of 12.7 mm calibre and drop tanks under the wings made it an escort over distances that no fighter had flown along before. Bomber crews called them Little Friends.

On the tabletop

The P-51D was the most widely built version of the Mustang and is recognisable by its bubble canopy with clear all-round view. In this starter box you build it in 1:72 scale from 51 parts, with the canopy as a clear part. Glue, brush, the main paints and a decal sheet are included as well. With drop tanks the original escorted bombers over long distances, and their crews called the fighters Little Friends. As a display model it sits well next to bombers in the same scale.
