Product details

Background & context

The LCVP came from Andrew Higgins, a boatbuilder from New Orleans whose shallow-draught swamp boats provided the pattern. Eisenhower later called him the man who had won the war; over 20,000 of these boats were built. The M4 Sherman first reached Omaha as the amphibious DD version, a makeshift with a raised canvas screen that barely worked in the heavy seas of the night of the landings.

On the tabletop

As a starter version, the Omaha Beach box includes four acrylic paints, a brush and polystyrene cement, so you can begin without any equipment of your own. Everything is in 1:72: an LCVP landing craft with three crew figures and beach obstacles, an M4 Sherman and 28 American infantrymen. The LCVP was designed by Andrew Higgins, and at Omaha Beach the Sherman first came ashore as the amphibious DD version. Five marking options on the decal sheet let you finish the vehicles differently before you set everything up as a beach scene.
