Product details

Background & context

Andrew Higgins built shallow boats in New Orleans for the swamps of the Mississippi delta, craft that could run onto land at full speed and pull off again in reverse. That was exactly what the US Navy was looking for in 1941. With a hinged bow ramp the civilian Eureka boat became the LCVP, built of plywood with steel fittings. Eisenhower later credited Higgins with having helped decide the war with this design.

On the tabletop

In this Starter Kit the Higgins boat LCVP in 1:72 scale comes with three crew figures, decals, acrylic paints, brush and glue. That lets you build and paint a small landing scene in one go, for instance with the ramp lowered on the beach. As 1:72 matches 20 mm gaming scale, infantry figures of that size fit alongside it, including on a Second World War gaming table. The shallow design goes back to Andrew Higgins.
