Background & context

Die Ju 52/3m entstand 1932 als Verkehrsflugzeug, nicht als Militärmaschine. Die Deutsche Lufthansa flog mit ihr Linie, andere Gesellschaften brachten den Typ bis nach Südamerika und China. Ihre Wellblechhaut aus Duralumin war Junkers-Handschrift und machte die Zelle so robust, dass Bodenpersonal fast überall damit zurechtkam. Erst der Spanische Bürgerkrieg zeigte, wie brauchbar der Dreimotorer als Transporter und Behelfsbomber war, danach ging er in Serie für die Luftwaffe.

On the tabletop

The Ju 52/3m starter set in 1:72 contains 101 parts, acrylic paints, a brush and glue. The three engines, the long fuselage and the corrugated metal skin make it a bigger build than a small fighter. The decal sheet represents an aircraft of a Luftwaffe blind-flying school from 1938, showing the Ju 52 as a pre-war training aircraft. With a wingspan of around 40 cm, the finished model needs its own place on the shelf or on a diorama airfield.
