    Product details

    Background & context

After the Normandy landings the advance hung on one simple question: how does the fuel get forward? The answer was the Red Ball Express, a continuous convoy of GMC lorries that shuttled round the clock in the summer of 1944 between the beaches and the advancing divisions. It was driven predominantly by African American soldiers. Without these lorries the front would simply have ground to a halt.

    On the tabletop

This starter set contains the GMC truck in 1:72 with acrylic paints, a brush and glue, so you can start building and painting without buying anything else. The kit includes a driver figure and a ring mount, and the decals represent a truck of the Red Ball Express in August 1944. Once built, it joins other Normandy vehicles in the display cabinet. On 20 mm gaming tables it runs as a supply vehicle in the rear areas behind the front.
