    Background & context

    Die Hellcat kam Anfang 1943 an Bord und drehte den Luftkrieg über dem Pazifik binnen weniger Monate. Beim Angriff auf die Marianen im Juni 1944 schossen ihre Piloten so viele japanische Maschinen ab, dass die Schlacht als Marianen-Truthahnschießen in die Geschichte einging. Grumman baute in gut zwei Jahren über 12.000 Stück, die F6F-5 stellte davon den größten Teil. Nach 1945 flogen ausgemusterte Hellcats noch für die Royal Navy und die französische Aéronavale.

    On the tabletop

    The F6F-5 Hellcat starter set comes with acrylic paints, a brush and glue. You decide which navy it will be through the decals: two US Navy Hellcats from USS Randolph, a British Fleet Air Arm aircraft from HMS Emperor, or a French Aéronavale machine from Indochina. Built, the model shows the carrier fighter that dominated the air war over the Pacific from 1943. It works equally well in the display cabinet or on a flight deck in a diorama.
