Background & context

Die C-47 kam nicht aus dem Militär, sondern aus dem Liniendienst: Sie ist die kriegstaugliche Fassung der Douglas DC-3, die ab 1935 den amerikanischen Luftverkehr rentabel machte. Die US Army Air Forces nannten sie Skytrain, die RAF taufte sie Dakota, und beide Namen hängen dem Muster bis heute an. Nach 1945 blieb sie im Dienst und flog 1948 als Rosinenbomber die Berliner Luftbrücke mit. Einzelne Maschinen arbeiten bis heute auf Buschpisten.

On the tabletop

This box contains the 1:72 C-47 together with acrylic paints for the base colours, a brush and glue. Its 140 parts build into a transport aircraft with a 40 cm wingspan. All three markings are French: aircraft of two transport groups in Algeria and Indochina and a naval aviation Dakota. You therefore build the C-47 as it flew in French service after 1945. Parked, it suits an airfield diorama or the edge of a 20 mm gaming table.
