Product details

Background & context

The Pup reached the front at the end of 1916 and for half a year was the handiest fighter over the Western Front. It got its name because it looked like a small offspring of the two-seat Sopwith 1½ Strutter. With only a single Vickers machine gun it was lightly armed, but it could hold its height in a turning fight better than the opposing Albatros fighters. The Royal Naval Air Service also flew it from ships: in 1917 a Pup made the first landing on a carrier under way.

On the tabletop

From late 1916 the Pup was a light, handy fighter with a single Vickers gun that held its height well in a turning fight. This 1:72 kit depicts an aircraft of No. 4 Squadron, Royal Naval Air Service, in 1917. With 26 parts and a 111 mm wingspan the build stays manageable, and the few struts let you practise working with biplanes. Alongside 20 mm figures, the Pup can add to a Western Front gaming table.
