Description

This set contains six 12mm/1:144 scale Sherman Firefly tanks with a decal sheet for British forces. The Firefly carried the 17-pounder QF gun and could engage most German tanks at normal combat ranges. Due to a lack of high-explosive shells, it was less effective against soft targets and infantry.

Die Briten sahen früh, dass die 75-mm-Kanone des Sherman gegen schwere deutsche Panzerung nichts ausrichtete, und pressten die lange 17-Pfünder-Kanone in den vorhandenen Turm. Das Geschütz musste dafür gekippt und der Funkerplatz geopfert werden, die Besatzung schrumpfte auf vier Mann. Ab der Normandie fuhr in der Regel ein Firefly je Troop mit, und deutsche Besatzungen lernten schnell, den Panzer mit dem auffällig langen Rohr zuerst zu beschießen. Eine brauchbare Sprenggranate fehlte, gegen Infanterie und Stellungen blieb er deshalb schwach.

On the tabletop

With six Sherman Fireflies in 12 mm you reinforce British tank troops against heavy German armour. The 17-pounder was the most powerful gun on any Allied tank and could defeat Panthers and Tigers at normal battle ranges. Because it had hardly any high-explosive ammunition, the Firefly was of little use against infantry and soft targets. In games you therefore pair it with 75 mm Shermans or Cromwells that take on that task.
