Product details

Background & context

The eight-wheeled armoured cars go back to the 1930s, when Germany developed armoured reconnaissance vehicles on wheels rather than tracks. The SdKfz 234 of 1943 was given an air-cooled Tatra diesel for desert and steppe and came in four versions: the 234/1 with a 2cm cannon, the Puma 234/2 with a 5cm turret, the 234/3 with a short 7.5cm howitzer and the 234/4 with an open-mounted 7.5cm Pak 40. The last of these was Hitler's idea of a fast tank destroyer; only around 90 were built by March 1945.

On the tabletop

The Sd.Kfz. 234/4 mounted an open 7.5 cm Pak 40 on the eight-wheeled chassis of an armoured car. In 1:76 it is built from 57 parts and measures 76 mm when finished, and the decal sheet carries one set of markings. Since only a few were built, it belongs in scenes from 1944 and 1945. On the gaming table it adds a fast tank hunter to German 1:76 forces, letting you appear unexpectedly on a flank.
