Background & context

Am Anfang der Samurai-Tradition stand der berittene Bogenschütze, doch bis zur Sengoku-Zeit hatte sich das Bild gedreht: Kavallerie ritt mit der Yari-Lanze und diente vor allem dem Stoß gegen eine schon erschütterte Linie. Japanische Pferde der Epoche waren klein und zäh, näher am Pony als am europäischen Schlachtross, und wurden ebenso gerüstet wie ihre Reiter. Wer beritten kämpfte, gehörte zum Gefolge eines Daimyo - Rang zeigte sich am Pferd so deutlich wie an der Rüstung.

On the tabletop

This plastic sprue contains six horses with equipment for mounted samurai; riders and bases are not included. Together with the matching riders sprue you can build a unit of Sengoku-period samurai cavalry. As horses were scarce in Japan, only a small part of an army was mounted, so mounted units stay small. One sprue gives you enough horses for such a unit.
