Product details

Background & context

When the Wehrmacht first met the T-34 in 1941, the shock was great: sloped armour, wide tracks and a 76.2 mm gun made the newcomer superior to the German Panzer III and IV. Developed in Kharkov under Mikhail Koshkin, its production was moved behind the Urals after the German advance and there geared to mass output. By the end of the war well over 50,000 T-34s and T-34/85s had come off the lines, more than of any other Allied tank.

On the tabletop

The T-34 was designed for simple production in large numbers and so became the standard tank of the Red Army on the Eastern Front. Airfix has reissued the 1968 mould with Roy Cross's box art; the 1:76 kit has 58 parts and decals for one vehicle. In a few evenings the model is ready for your display cabinet or a scene with German tanks in the same scale. With 1:76 figures it forms the core of a Soviet tank force on the gaming table.
