Product details

Background & context

Robin Hood first appears in ballads of the 14th century, as a yeoman with a longbow who robs the sheriff and abbots; the Middle Ages knew nothing yet of the nobleman Robin of Locksley who shares out the loot among the poor. Little John, Will Scarlet and Much the Miller's Son belong to the oldest layer of the story, while Maid Marian and Friar Tuck only arrived by way of the May games. Sherwood Forest was a royal forest at the time, where poaching was severely punished, the setting for a hero who broke the rules of authority.

On the tabletop

Thirty-eight outlaws on foot and one rider make up Robin Hood's band in 1:76, with longbows and hoods, quickly painted in greens and browns. The character comes from English ballads of the 14th century, in which an archer in the royal forest of Sherwood defies the Sheriff of Nottingham. In a diorama you can build a camp in the woods or an ambush on a forest road. On the gaming table they take on the Sheriff's armed men from the matching figure set.
