Product details

Background & context

On 6 June 1944 more than 11,000 Allied aircraft stood ready, and the Luftwaffe had hardly anything to set against them that day. Mustangs flew less over the beaches than far behind them: armed reconnaissance, hunting supply columns and trains rolling towards Normandy. The invasion stripes disappeared from the upper surfaces again in the weeks that followed, because they made the aircraft far too visible on the ground.

On the tabletop

This Mustang wears the black and white invasion stripes of June 1944. You put it together from 38 pre-coloured push-fit parts with no glue and no paint, and stickers add the insignia. Over Normandy, Mustangs mostly operated behind the beaches at the time, attacking columns and trains. Your finished model shows this part of the invasion on the shelf, together with the D-Day Spitfire from the same range.
