Background & context

Die Mustang wurde erst zur Legende, als man ihr den britischen Merlin-Motor einbaute: Plötzlich kam ein Jäger, der die Bomber der 8th Air Force bis Berlin und zurück begleiten konnte. Die D-Version mit Vollsichthaube und sechs Maschinengewehren war ab Frühjahr 1944 das Rückgrat der US-Jagdgruppen in England. Die Bf 109 F war da schon ein Auslaufmodell, für viele Piloten aber die harmonischste 109 überhaupt, mit sauberen Linien und leichter Steuerung. Zusammen zeigen sie, wie zwei Länder dasselbe Problem lösten: viel Motor um wenig Flugzeug.

On the tabletop

Two fighters with few parts make this set a starting point for aircraft modelling: the P-51D Mustang has 31 parts and the Bf 109 F-4 has 30, both in 1:72 and rated skill level 1. Acrylic paints, polystyrene cement, brushes and a shared decal sheet are included. The Mustang represents the American escort fighters that from 1944 protected the bombers all the way to Berlin and back. Many pilots considered the Friedrich the easiest Bf 109 to handle. Displayed together, the two models show opponents from the air war over Europe.
