Product details

Background & context

The 7.5 cm Pak 40 came about as the answer to the T-34 and the KV tanks, against which the existing German calibres achieved little. From 1942 it became the backbone of anti-tank defence and stayed so until the end of the war, even though its one and a half tonnes turned every change of position into drudgery. That is exactly why a tow vehicle was usually attached. The Opel Blitz with its three-tonne payload was the most common of these: a civilian lorry that went along in field grey on every front of the Wehrmacht.

On the tabletop

The 7.5 cm Pak 40 and an Opel Blitz as its tow vehicle form a German anti-tank detachment in 1:76. The decals let you assign them to the 3rd Panzer Division in Russia or to a unit in North Africa. The Pak was smaller than the eighty-eight and easier to conceal, so in a diorama you place it camouflaged at the edge of a wood. The truck can also serve on its own as a supply vehicle in a scene behind the lines.
