Background & context

Die P-51K war die Schwester der P-51D aus dem Werk in Dallas: gleiche Zelle, gleicher Merlin aus Packard-Lizenz, aber ein Aeroproducts-Propeller mit hohlen Stahlblättern statt des Hamilton Standard. Die RAF führte ihre Mustangs mit Blasenhaube und Rückenflosse als Mk.IV und setzte sie 1945 vor allem als Begleitschutz und gegen V1-Startstellungen ein. Die Australier der No. 3 Squadron flogen ihre Mustangs in Italien bis zum Kriegsende im Jagdbomber-Einsatz gegen Nachschubwege im Po-Tal. Nach dem Krieg blieb der Typ bei der RAF nur kurz - die Jets standen vor der Tür.

On the tabletop

On the outside, the P-51K differs from the P-51D mainly in its Aeroproducts propeller, and the RAF called it the Mustang Mk.IV. This 1:48 kit offers two marking options from 1945: Dooleybird of No. 19 Squadron RAF at Acklington and an aircraft of the Australian No. 3 Squadron in Italy. The large scale rewards work on cockpit and undercarriage. Beside a P-51D in the same scale, your cabinet shows the difference at the propeller.
