    Product details

    Background & context

The Mustang was not finished in 1945. The USAF reclassified it in 1948, P-51D became F-51D, and in July 1950 the aircraft was back in action over Korea, this time with bombs and rockets under its wings rather than as an escort fighter over Germany. The liquid-cooled Merlin was really too vulnerable for low-level attacks, but it was available at once. In parallel, Air National Guard squadrons flew the type well into the 1950s.

    On the tabletop

In 1948 the P-51D became the F-51D, and two years later it was flying over Korea as a fighter-bomber against ground targets. The decals show an aircraft of the South Korean air force at Pohang in July 1950 and one of the Kentucky Air National Guard. With 72 parts and the easiest skill level, the kit suits your first model. Finished, it shows the Mustang in its service after the Second World War, in the Korean War.
