    Background & context

    Kein Panzerschutz, keine schweren Waffen, dafür zwei Motoren und eine Zelle, die dem Wind kaum etwas entgegensetzte: Die Mitsubishi Ki-46 sollte fotografieren und wieder verschwinden. In den ersten Kriegsjahren gelang genau das, weil kaum ein alliierter Jäger auf ihre Marschhöhe und ihr Tempo kam. Erst als bessere Abfangjäger auftauchten, wurde es eng, und Japan baute die schlanke Zelle notgedrungen selbst zum Höhenjäger um.

    On the tabletop

    The Ki-46 was meant to take its photographs at high altitude and be gone before an Allied fighter could reach it. You build the twin-engined reconnaissance aircraft from 51 parts of the Vintage Classics range in 1:72, and the decal sheet offers two colour schemes. With its slim airframe and long canopy it looks quite different from Japanese fighters and bombers. In a Pacific War display your model fills the role of the reconnaissance aircraft.
