Product details

Background & context

Jiro Horikoshi was given a specification that really contradicted itself: more agile than anything else, faster than anything else and with enormous range on top. He solved it by rigorously cutting weight: no pilot armour, no self-sealing tanks. At first that paid off, and Japanese pilots dominated the Pacific in 1941 and 1942. As soon as the Allies learned to avoid the turning fight and attack in a dive, the strength became a fatal weakness.

On the tabletop

Lightly built, without armour for the pilot and with a long range, the Zero set the pace in the skies over the Pacific in 1941 and 1942. This 1:72 kit makes a small, quick model from 47 parts with a 166 mm wingspan. It is finished as the aircraft of Yoshiro Hashiguchi of the 3rd Kokutai, based on Bali in February 1942. Paired with an American fighter of the first months of the war, it shows the early air battles of the Pacific in your display cabinet.
