    Product details

    Background & context

In April 1945 the Reich was falling apart, and yet jet fighters that could outrun any Allied piston engine were still taking off from Bavarian field airstrips. The kit captures exactly that moment: Heinz Bär, one of the most successful fighter pilots of all, flew White 17 at Lechfeld, while Hans Frölich of Kampfgeschwader 51 parked his A-2a at Fassberg on the very day of the surrender. The engines lasted barely 25 hours, fuel was lacking, and the aircraft arrived years too late to change anything.

    On the tabletop

The kit gives you the choice of the A-1a fighter or the A-2a fighter-bomber, both in markings from the final weeks of the war in 1945. Heinz Bär flew White 17 at Lechfeld in April, while Hans Frölich of KG 51 left his A-2a at Fassberg on the day of the surrender. In 1:72 the 65 parts make a model with a 174 mm wingspan. As a display piece it shows the first jet fighter in front-line service, and in a diorama you set it on a Bavarian field airstrip.
