    Product details

    Background & context

The Messerschmitt Me 262 was the first operational jet-powered fighter aircraft in aviation history. Although its design began before the outbreak of the war, technical difficulties and interventions from political and military leadership significantly delayed its series production - so much so that the aircraft only appeared in frontline service in 1944. Depending on its intended use, the aircraft received different nicknames: as a fighter aircraft, it was called "Schwalbe" (Swallow), while in its fighter-bomber variant, it bore the name "Sturmvogel" (Storm Petrel). The Me 262 surpassed all Allied models in top speed and was significantly more heavily armed than its opponents.

    On the tabletop

With six Me 262s you fly the first operational jet fighter in Blood Red Skies, which reached the front in mid 1944. At high speed it outruns every Allied aircraft and hits hard with four 30 mm cannon, but at low speed it becomes vulnerable because the early engines gave little thrust. So do not get drawn into slow turning fights, and attack bombers from the side rather than head-on. Bases and cards for the squadron are included.
