    Product details

    Background & context

From 6 June 1944 Shermans rolled across the invasion beaches and made up the bulk of the Allied armoured forces in Normandy. In the hedgerow country of the bocage they could barely make headway, because every bank tipped the hull upwards and exposed the belly. Only when crews welded cutting teeth made from German beach obstacles to the bow armour did things move forward again. After that the units worked their way field by field to the breakout at Avranches.

    On the tabletop

The M4 Sherman in 1:72 scale is around 87 mm long when finished and shows the tank as it ran in Normandy from 6 June 1944. In the hedgerow country the Shermans first got stuck on the earth banks, until crews welded cutting teeth from beach obstacles to the bow. You assemble hull, turret and running gear from polystyrene parts. In a diorama or on a 20 mm gaming table it drives beside American infantry of the same size; paints and glue are bought separately.
