Product details

Background & context

The LVT grew out of the Alligator, a tracked vehicle Donald Roebling built in the 1930s as a rescue vehicle for the Florida swamps. The Marine Corps saw in it a carrier that could travel from ship to shore across reefs. At Tarawa in November 1943 the tracked vehicles took the assault waves over the coral reef on which the landing boats ran aground. After that they took part in every major landing in the Pacific.

On the tabletop

Fill the open cargo bay of your LVT with the crates and tarpaulins and the vehicle looks as if it is heading for the beach. The three soldiers man the machine guns and cover the incoming wave. On a table with coral reef, beach and palms you can recreate a landing on a Pacific island. In Bolt Action the crewed amphibious tractor carries your infantry across the water to the shore.
