Product details

Background & context

In the Second World War the Luftwaffe often operated from improvised forward airfields: meadows in northern France, sand strips in Libya, frozen fields before Moscow. There the black men, as the fitters were called on account of their dark overalls, kept the Staffeln in the air: changing engines, hanging bombs, belting up cannon. The longer the war went on, the more flying operations suffered from the shortage of spare parts and fuel rather than from any lack of skill in the ground crews.

On the tabletop

These 46 unpainted figures show Luftwaffe ground crew servicing, repairing and loading aircraft. In 1:76 they turn a parked machine into a scene on a forward airfield. A meadow in northern France, a sand strip in Libya or a frozen field outside Moscow, you set the location with the groundwork of your diorama. The mechanics wore dark working overalls, which makes painting easier for you.
