Background & context

Die Hudson war 1938 der erste große US-Rüstungsauftrag der Briten: Lockheed baute das Verkehrsflugzeug Model 14 Super Electra in Rekordzeit zum Aufklärer um. Bei Coastal Command patrouillierte sie über Nordsee und Atlantik, jagte U-Boote und deckte Konvois. Eine Hudson erzielte im Oktober 1939 den ersten Abschuss eines deutschen Flugzeugs durch eine in den USA gebaute RAF-Maschine, und im August 1941 nahm eine Hudson die Kapitulation von U-570 entgegen - ein U-Boot, das sich einem Flugzeug ergab.

On the tabletop

The Hudson Mk.I flew maritime patrols over the North Sea and the Atlantic with Coastal Command and covered convoys. The 1:72 kit has 85 parts and a single marking, that of an aircraft of No. 206 Squadron at Aldergrove in Northern Ireland in 1941. The Boulton Paul dorsal turret, typical of British Hudsons, is part of the model. You can place it in the cabinet or in a coastal diorama, for example next to boats and figures in the same scale.
