Product details

Background & context

The Landing Craft Mechanised Mk.III was a rectangular steel box with a bow ramp and two engines, built for exactly one task: putting a vehicle of up to tank weight ashore dry. More than 8,600 craft were launched from American shipyards, and they were operated by the US Navy and the Royal Navy alike. From 1942 they turned up on every invasion coast, from the Mediterranean via Normandy to the islands of the Pacific. The diesel-powered Sherman M4A2 fitted the picture well, as it often went to the Marines and to the Allies.

On the tabletop

A landing craft and a tank in one box: 88 parts build the LCM Mk.III and a Sherman M4A2 in 1:76, with the tank carried as the boat's cargo. The decals show the boat with the Royal Navy in Normandy and the Sherman with the 3rd County of London Yeomanry. In a diorama you can beach the craft and place the tank in front of it as if it had just come ashore. As both models share the same scale, the Sherman also works on its own alongside 1:76 figures.
