Product details

Background & context

In 1940 the US Army was looking for a light off-road vehicle and gave manufacturers 49 days to produce a prototype. Bantam delivered, Willys and Ford followed with their own builds, and in the end around 640,000 Willys MB and identical Ford GPW were produced, with a 60 hp engine, four-wheel drive and an unladen weight of about one tonne. The vehicle did everything: reconnaissance, command car, ambulance, MG carrier, tractor for light guns. Under Lend-Lease it also served with the British and the Soviets. Where the name Jeep comes from is disputed to this day; the career that followed is not: the MB became the civilian CJ and with it a whole class of vehicle.

On the tabletop

Alongside the Willys MB in 1:72, this gift set contains paints, glue and a brush, so you can start building straight away. With 71 parts and skill level 1 it suits a first vehicle project. Once painted, the jeep can stand on the shelf as a display model or serve as a command car on a field track in a diorama. On the gaming table it joins 20 mm figures as a light vehicle for reconnaissance and liaison.
