Product details

Background & context

The Wildcat is thought of as a Pacific fighter, but it flew over the Atlantic too: during the landings in North Africa in November 1942, aircraft of VF-41 took off from USS Ranger against Vichy French units. Half a year later James E. Swett brought down several Japanese dive bombers over the Solomons, on the first combat sortie of his life. The two actions show how widely the little Grumman saw service.

On the tabletop

This Wildcat edition in 1:72 shows the small carrier fighter in two theatres of war. The VF-41 aircraft launched from USS Ranger for the North African landings in November 1942, while James E. Swett flew the second from Henderson Field on Guadalcanal in 1943. The model is built from 58 parts at skill level 2. You can put it in the cabinet or on the flight deck of a carrier diorama in the same scale.
