Background & context

Die Goten waren keine Nation, sondern ein Bündnis von Verbänden, das unter dem Druck der Hunnen über die Donau nach Westen zog. 378 schlugen sie bei Adrianopel ein römisches Heer und töteten Kaiser Valens - eine Niederlage, von der sich der Osten militärisch lange nicht erholte. 410 nahm Alarich Rom ein, danach trennten sich die Wege: Westgoten nach Gallien und Spanien, Ostgoten nach Italien. Gekämpft wurde mit Speer und Schild, Panzerung trug nur, wer sie sich leisten konnte.

On the tabletop

Up to 30 unarmoured Goths with spear, sword, axe, bow or sling form a war band of the Migration Period. Every frame provides a standard and command, so you can field several groups each with its own leader. Armoured warriors can be added with parts from the Late Roman legionary boxes of the same range. In games spearmen and swordsmen stand in front while bows and slings engage the enemy, for example in an action like Adrianople in 378 against a Roman army.
