Background & context

Six driven wheels, a ladder frame and an engine that field workshops could get going again with whatever was to hand: the CCKW was deliberately designed to be simple. The same chassis carried cargo trucks with and without canvas, fuel tankers, workshop bodies and tippers. It was exactly this modular logic that made it the standard vehicle behind every front from North Africa to Burma.

On the tabletop

The GMC CCKW 353 in 1:72 is a kit for supply scenes behind the front. Heller includes a driver figure and a ring mount, and the decals depict a truck of a transport unit on the Red Ball Express in August 1944. As a display model you can place it next to other Normandy vehicles, or in a diorama beside a road with a traffic post. In 20 mm games it serves as a transport vehicle or as a target within a supply convoy.
