Product details

Background & context

In the High Middle Ages, the town was the most valuable prize a campaign had to offer: markets, guilds, warehouses and customs revenue lay behind its walls. Whoever took it gained far more than a piece of ground. Accordingly, fighting often shifted into the alleys, where cavalry suddenly became useless and a dozen spearmen could hold the mouth of an entire street. This very confinement is what makes town fights on the gaming table so appealing: lines of sight end after a few inches, and every crossroads is a small problem of its own.

On the tabletop

Medieval Town has a high medieval town with cobbles, narrow lanes and a market square printed on it, 183 x 122 cm in size. Line the lanes with houses and play fights in which cavalry makes little headway and a few spearmen can hold the mouth of a street. Lines of sight end after a short distance, and every crossroads becomes a fight of its own. A battle bag for transport is included.
