Background & context

From early in the second year of the war, the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was one of the most powerful fighter aircraft in the German Luftwaffe, complementing the already established Messerschmitt Bf 109 as the second pillar of the fighter arm. Upon its first deployment, the type surprised Allied pilots with its superior maneuverability and firepower at low to medium altitudes. Only with the introduction of further developed Spitfire variants were the Allies able to seriously counter the technical superiority of the Würger. The aircraft was used on almost all European theaters of war and is still considered one of the most distinctive piston-engine fighter aircraft of World War II.

On the tabletop

The six Fw 190s give your Luftwaffe in Blood Red Skies a fighter that from autumn 1941 outclassed the Spitfire Mk V in almost every respect and shone at low to medium altitude. Alongside the Bf 109 it carried the main burden of the German fighter arm on every European front and later became a fighter-bomber as well. So strike fast rather than getting drawn into long turning fights. Bases, pilot discs and aircraft, doctrine and trait cards are included.
