    Hintergrund & Einordnung

    From early in the second year of the war, the Focke-Wulf Fw 190 was one of the most powerful fighter aircraft in the German Luftwaffe, complementing the already established Messerschmitt Bf 109 as the second pillar of the fighter arm. Upon its first deployment, the type surprised Allied pilots with its superior maneuverability and firepower at low to medium altitudes. Only with the introduction of further developed Spitfire variants were the Allies able to seriously counter the technical superiority of the Würger. The aircraft was used on almost all European theaters of war and is still considered one of the most distinctive piston-engine fighter aircraft of World War II.

    In the game, the Fw 190 Squadron represents a complete Blood Red Skies squadron. The squadron is suitable for dogfights with powerful fighter and fighter-bomber profiles; its strengths should be consciously utilized in scenarios around the Western Front, Eastern Front, and Defense of the Reich. For Germany, it provides a thematically clear selection that can be used directly with the appropriate cards, bases, and markers.
