    Product details

    Background & context

Kurt Tank deliberately built the Fw 190 against the spirit of the times: radial engine instead of in-line engine, wide-track undercarriage, and a cockpit you could actually see out of. When it appeared over the English Channel in the autumn of 1941 it was superior to the Spitfire V in almost everything, and the RAF had to rush the Mk. IX into service. From 1944 the A-8 became the most-built version, heavily armed and correspondingly ponderous. The F-8, by contrast, was designed for low-level attacks with a bomb load.

    On the tabletop

When building this Fw 190 you choose between the heavily armed A-8 against Allied daylight bombers and the F-8 for attacking ground targets. The F-8 lacks the outer wing cannon but carries a bomb under the fuselage and smaller bombs under the wings. The markings show the A-8 of Major Karl Kennel in Bohemia in May 1945 and an F-8 on the Eastern Front in 1944. With 74 parts in 1:72, the model also fits German vehicles in 20 mm.
