Background & context

Die Kaisergarde war Napoleons Versicherung: Veteranen mit mehreren Feldzügen auf dem Buckel, in Reserve gehalten, bis eine Schlacht entschieden werden musste. Am Abend des 18. Juni 1815 schickte er sie den Hang von Mont-Saint-Jean hinauf. Die Bataillone liefen in das Salvenfeuer der britischen Garde und wichen zurück - und als der Ruf durch die französische Armee ging, dass die Garde weiche, löste sich die ganze Aufstellung auf.

On the tabletop

This frame lets you field the Middle and Old Guard in bearskins for your French army in 13.5 mm Black Powder, with a gun and a mounted commander cast on as well. The Guard was Napoleon's last reserve. Hold it back and only commit it when the battle has to be decided, as on the evening of Waterloo against the heights of Mont-Saint-Jean. Bases are not included.
