Background & context

Wer 1940 über England abstürzte oder notlandete, hinterließ ein Wrack, das schnell weg musste - als Ersatzteilquelle, wegen der Geheimhaltung oder schlicht, weil die Wiese wieder Rollfeld werden sollte. Dafür gab es die Maintenance Units der RAF. Der Queen Mary, ein knapp 18 Meter langer Tieflader, schluckte einen kompletten Rumpf samt Tragflächen; der Bedford Ox zog ihn. Der Thornycroft Amazon mit Coles-Kran hob Motoren und Bruchstücke auf die Ladefläche. Nach 1945 blieben beide noch Jahre im Dienst.

On the tabletop

With the Bedford Ox, the long Queen Mary low-loader and the Thornycroft Amazon crane lorry you assemble an RAF recovery team in 1:76. The crane lifts engines and wreckage, while the trailer takes an entire aircraft fuselage. In a diorama you can recover a crash-landed machine from a field or take a dismantled Spitfire away for repair. Two sets of markings are included, and the 147 parts call for some building experience.
