Product details

Background & context

The Churchill was slow, but heavily armoured and able to climb almost any slope, ideal as the basis for specialised vehicles. On the Bridge Layer a hydraulic pivoting arm replaced the turret; the 30-foot Tank Bridge No. 2 was laid across an obstacle from the tank without the crew getting out. Intended for anti-tank ditches and streams, it followed the British and Canadian divisions from Normandy to the Rhine and remained in service with the Royal Engineers into the 1950s.

On the tabletop

Instead of a turret this Churchill carries a pivot arm, with which the Royal Engineers laid a 30-foot bridge across ditches and streams from inside the vehicle. The bridge stayed level throughout until it rested on the far side. The 1:76 kit has 129 parts and one set of markings. In a diorama you show the vehicle with its bridge laid and a tank crossing over it, and on the gaming table it helps your British forces past obstacles.
