    Product details

    Background & context

The Red Devils, as the Germans called them, jumped at Bruneval in 1942 to raid a radar station. Then came Tunisia, Sicily and Italy, and on the night before 6 June 1944 the 6th Airborne secured the bridges over the Orne and the Caen Canal, while the 1st Airborne was held back for Market Garden. At Arnhem a single battalion held the northern end of the Rhine bridge from 17 to 21 September 1944, surrounded and without resupply, while the rest of the division fought on for nine days. The maroon beret, the Denison smock and the PIAT made the Paras an icon of the British Army.

    On the tabletop

With 184 figures you field a British parachute company with command and heavy weapons in 12 mm scale. Bren and Sten gunners make up the platoons, PIAT teams and flamethrowers deal with vehicles and strongpoints, and Vickers guns and mortars provide fire support. Snipers, spotters, radio operators and ammunition carriers complete the company. Its battles run from Tunisia via Normandy and Arnhem to the Rhine, and the major with the umbrella is included as well.
