The British 8th Army fought German and Italian forces in North Africa from 1940 to 1943, and subsequently in Sicily and Southern Italy. This set provides a complete British Commonwealth infantry company with heavy weapons and anti-tank capabilities for exciting desert battles. The miniatures impress with dynamic poses and a high level of detail at the smallest scale.

Background & context

Die Eighth Army entstand im September 1941 aus der Western Desert Force und war von Anfang an ein Vielvölkerheer: Briten, Australier, Neuseeländer, Inder und Südafrikaner, dazu freie Polen und Franzosen. Zwischen Ägypten und Tunesien schob sich die Front über zwei Jahre hin und her, bis El Alamein im Oktober 1942 die Richtung endgültig drehte. Danach folgten Sizilien und der zähe Weg die italienische Halbinsel hinauf. Die 2-pdr-Pak war da gegen schwerere Panzer längst grenzwertig, blieb aber die Waffe, die die Infanterie tatsächlich hatte.

On the tabletop

The 164 figures in 12 mm scale are enough for a Commonwealth infantry company with its heavy weapons platoon, from North Africa via Sicily to southern Italy, and for Southeast Asia too. Riflemen with Brens and Thompsons form the platoons, led by officers and radio operators. The 2 inch mortars support directly, the 3 inch mortars fire from the rear, and four 2-pounder anti-tank guns plus the anti-tank rifles stop vehicles. The mine detectors clear a path for your infantry through minefields.
