Background & context

1935 bestellte Zeitungsverleger Lord Rothermere ein schnelles Geschäftsflugzeug, die Bristol Type 142, und nannte es Britain First - es war schneller als jeder RAF-Jäger. Daraus wurde die Blenheim, 1937 ein Sprung nach vorn für die RAF. Der Vorsprung schmolz schnell: Eine Blenheim flog am 3. September 1939 den ersten britischen Einsatz über Deutschland, am Tag darauf griffen Blenheims Wilhelmshaven an und fünf kamen nicht zurück. Gegen die Bf 109 hatte der Bomber kaum eine Chance; im Mittelmeer und in Griechenland kämpfte die Mk.I trotzdem bis 1941 weiter.

On the tabletop

When the Blenheim joined the RAF in 1937 it was faster than the biplanes it replaced, but in the war it was outclassed by German fighters. The 1:48 kit has 216 parts and spans 357 mm when finished. You can build a pre-war aircraft from Bicester or a Blenheim from Greece in 1941. With its glazed nose, dorsal turret and two radial engines it represents the light bombers of the early war years as a display model.
