Background & context

Bristol entwickelte die Beaufort aus der Blenheim als Torpedobomber, der auch Minen legen und aufklären konnte. Ab 1940 flog das Coastal Command mit ihr gegen deutsche Küstenschifffahrt, gegen Scharnhorst und Gneisenau in Brest und 1942 mit fatalen Verlusten gegen den Kanaldurchbruch. Die Mk.IA bekam den Bristol-Turm mit zwei Maschinengewehren und eine verstärkte Zelle. Als in Europa modernere Muster übernahmen, wanderten viele Maschinen an Ausbildungseinheiten und nach Südostasien.

On the tabletop

The Beaufort was Coastal Command's torpedo bomber and attacked German shipping off the coast from 1940. The Mk.IA carries the Bristol dorsal turret and a strengthened airframe, and the 1:72 kit has 159 parts with a finished span of 244 mm. The two sets of markings come from a squadron on Ceylon and a torpedo training unit in Scotland. As a display model it adds to your collection of British bombers, and in a diorama it suits a coastal airfield.
