    Product details

    Background & context

At the beginning of the war, the Heinkel He 111 was the backbone of the German Luftwaffe and, more than almost any other aircraft, shaped the image of early wartime aviation. Initially proving reliable and robust in various theatres of war, the Battle of Britain exposed its weaknesses: its defensive weapon systems proved inadequate against modern fighter aircraft. As the war progressed, the He 111's operational profile changed fundamentally - in addition to its role as a bomber, it increasingly took on tasks in maritime reconnaissance, as well as in transport and supply operations.

    On the tabletop

Three Heinkel He 111Hs form a bomber formation in Blood Red Skies that your opponent has to intercept before it reaches its target. Multi-engine aircraft require the Air Strike! supplement and its rules. When the war began, no German medium bomber was more numerous, but the Battle of Britain exposed its weak defensive armament, so escort fighters matter. Later it flew maritime patrol and transport missions, which also make good scenarios.
