    Background & context

Bismarck was launched in Hamburg in 1939 and, at over 250 metres long and with eight 38 cm guns, was the heaviest warship in Europe. In May 1941 she broke out into the Atlantic with Prinz Eugen to destroy convoys, sank the Hood in the Denmark Strait and then became the hunted ship. A torpedo from the Swordfish biplanes of Ark Royal jammed her rudder; on the morning of 27 May Rodney and King George V caught the crippled ship and shot her to pieces. Of over 2,200 men, 114 survived.

    On the tabletop

With 170 parts you build the Bismarck in 1:600 as a 415 mm display model with complete hull, superstructure, main turrets and secondary armament. In May 1941 the battleship sailed into the North Atlantic with Prinz Eugen, sank the Hood and was then hunted down by the Royal Navy. In a display cabinet she can anchor a group on that pursuit, with Hood, Prinz Eugen or King George V in the same scale. Skill level 3 calls for some building experience.
