Product details

Background & context

Barbed wire came from cattle farming and from 1914 lay in broad belts in front of the trenches of Flanders. Where it had been laid, an assault lost momentum and came under machine-gun fire, and that connection shapes the image of the First World War to this day. In the Second World War it was standard equipment for every position, from the Atlantic Wall to the field fortifications in the East.

On the tabletop

Four metres of twisted steel wire pass as barbed wire in 15 mm and 28 mm. Snip off suitable lengths, shape them and glue them in front of trenches, bunkers and positions so your terrain looks like a fortified front. From 1914 such wire lay in broad belts in front of the trenches and slowed every assault. It works just as well on bases and dioramas.
