    Background & context

    On the tabletop

The box holds the aircraft of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, based at Coningsby, as 1:72 kits: an Avro Lancaster B Mk.III, a Spitfire Mk.IIa and a Spitfire PR Mk.XIX. The decal sheet gives them the serials PA474, P7350 and PS915. P7350 is the only airworthy Spitfire that actually fought in the Battle of Britain, while PS915 served as a photo reconnaissance aircraft. With 236 parts the Lancaster is by far the biggest build. Twelve acrylic paints, two brushes and two tubes of cement cover all three models, and the display stand shows them together.
