Background & context

Am 25. Oktober 1415 stand bei Azincourt ein frisches französisches Ritterheer einem ausgezehrten englischen Zug gegenüber, der sich nach Calais durchschlagen wollte. Die Franzosen hatten Zahl, Rüstung und den besseren Ruf, dazu einen aufgeweichten Acker zwischen zwei Waldstücken, auf dem sich ihre Tiefe in eine Falle verwandelte. Wer abgesessen im Schlamm vorrückte, kam unter Langbogenbeschuss kaum vom Fleck. Die teuer angeworbenen genuesischen Armbrustschützen kamen kaum zum Zug.

On the tabletop

With more than 700 figures in 10 mm you can field the French host that faced Henry V at Azincourt in October 1415. The 351 knights and men-at-arms on foot form the deep battle lines, while the 108 mounted men attack the English archers on the flanks. The 246 Genoese crossbowmen open the fight at range. Casualties for every troop type, including 18 horses, and 99 bases of 40 x 20 mm are included. On the table you see why numbers counted for little on narrow, sodden ground, with the English army of the same range as opponent.
