Background & context

Am 25. Oktober 1415 war Heinrich V. mit einem ausgezehrten Heer auf dem Rückweg nach Calais, als ihn die Franzosen bei Azincourt stellten. Der französische Adel drängte auf einen Frontalangriff über einen frisch gepflügten, vom Regen aufgeweichten Acker, der sich zwischen zwei Waldstücken immer weiter verengte. Ritter in schwerer Rüstung blieben im Schlamm stecken, während die englischen Langbogenschützen aus dem Schutz ihrer Pfähle heraus Salve um Salve schossen. Am Abend hatte Frankreich einen großen Teil seiner Führungsschicht verloren.

On the tabletop

This box holds the complete English army for the battle of Azincourt in October 1415 in 10 mm scale. You place the 246 dismounted knights and men-at-arms in the centre as the core and the 462 longbowmen on the wings. The 105 stakes go in front of the archers, where the charge of the French horsemen is meant to founder. Because the archers also carry melee weapons, they can later join the hand-to-hand fighting themselves. With the 72 bases of 40 x 20 mm and casualties for every troop type, you can recreate the deployment between the two woods. The French army from the same range makes the opponent.
