    Product details

    Background & context

The 504 was already flying in 1913, and in 1914 an Avro was the first British loss in the air war. It made its career not at the front, however, but in training: with the 504K, whose engine mounting could take different rotary engines, the Royal Flying Corps standardised flying training in 1918. More than 8,000 were built, and as late as the 1920s beginners in the young RAF were learning to fly turns on the 504 before they converted to fighters.

    On the tabletop

A whole generation of British pilots learned to fly on the Avro 504K, which became the standard trainer of the flying service from 1918. The 1:72 kit has 37 parts and spans 152 mm when finished, with two sets of markings included. As a display model the biplane rounds off a collection of First World War aircraft. In a diorama you can set it on a training airfield with a tent hangar, an instructor and trainee pilots.
